Savoring Soul: Exploring the Soul Food Scene in Paris

​Welcome to Paris, the city of love, art, and gastronomy! While renowned for its exquisite French cuisine, Paris also offers a surprising array of soul food restaurants that capture the essence of Southern flavors. During my first visit to Paris in October 2022, accompanied by a dear friend, I had the opportunity to explore the city and uncover unique experiences for my clients. As part of my research, I delved into the realm of soul food restaurants, aiming to provide my clients with a taste of home in an unfamiliar place, just in case French cuisine didn't suit their preferences. Little did I know the extensive list of soul food options that awaited me.

​Excited to try one of these establishments, I decided to visit Gumbo Yaya, highly recommended by a friend who had recently been there. After a journey involving buses and a train, we finally arrived and embarked on a culinary adventure that would prove to be one of the highlights of our entire European trip.

The flavors at Gumbo Yaya Chicken and Waffles were exceptional, surpassing our expectations and leaving us thoroughly satisfied. We savored one of the best dishes we had encountered during our travels, complementing it with a refreshing glass of red Kool-Aid because, let's be honest, red is a flavor in its own right! The combination of familiar soul food and the vibrant atmosphere made our visit an absolute delight.

Reflecting back on that experience, I couldn't help but feel pleasantly surprised by the abundance of soul food restaurants in Paris. It was a testament to the city's diversity and its ability to cater to various tastes and preferences, ensuring that visitors could find comfort and enjoyment even when exploring unfamiliar culinary landscapes.
